  • 18 May 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. I too stand to support the Motion because it is timely. It has come at the right time. It should have been done yesterday. In any environment, like where we work in Parliament with so many members of staff and MPs a lot of man-hours, particularly with the staff, have been lost while people seek medical attention. Bringing this closer to the population within the community of Parliament is the best thing that has happened. If you look at research, the number of man-hours lost in many ... view
  • 18 May 2022 in National Assembly: During the recent pandemic of coronavirus, so many infections took place within the confines of Parliament. It is because of the kind of our work environment. Many people were infected when it could have been avoided, if we had a facility where detecting would be quick and timely, before it could spread to other people. I must say we were fortunate and lucky that not very many people lost their lives as in other areas where they worked within confined environments. Thirdly, with this facility being put in place come next Parliament, we will have easy access to quick consultation. ... view
  • 8 Feb 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand to support the Report of the Committee and support the appointment of Ms. Wangui Muchiri as a Commissioner in the Salaries and Remuneration Commission. A lot has been said about her and I want to add my voice in supporting her, given that she has the requisite qualifications and wealth of experience. She is coming in at a time when the SRC is on the spot. It requires the injection of new blood to it. We are all aware – it is in the public domain – of the terms ... view
  • 1 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I do appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the President’s Speech. First and foremost, I join my colleagues in appreciating what he has done in the more than eight years he has been in office. What struck me most was his humility and the manner in which he presented himself before us. It is something that we need to emulate as leaders. He was able to admit challenges that he has gone through as the President of this country. I was touched when he mentioned issues of corruption and what he did ... view
  • 1 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: we had the crisis of Covid-19, is great. A lot of money was pumped into our counties so that they could improve healthcare. Yes, he did talk about 300 hospital beds in every county, but we know there are many county governments that got the money but did not do anything. At least he can say what he was able to do to save his countrymen and women during the crisis. On education, as recent as last month, he was able to pump in Kshs8 billion for expansion of classrooms in secondary schools to mitigate against the 100 per cent ... view
  • 9 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand to oppose because NGEC is the only Commission that fully handles matters affecting gender and mainly women. I believe that women issues are a constituency on their own and stand to be lost in this body that will encompass all other areas. I stand to ask that we retain NGEC as it is and establish other commissions to deal with matters disability and the rest. There is one area the previous speaker has mentioned which I thought was a bit demeaning to the women fraternity. There is no way he ... view
  • 19 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I also want to join my colleagues in appreciating the Committee for coming up with the bilateral treaty. For a long time, many of us believed that you could fly anywhere, across any country and go wherever you wanted until we realised that there are rules that are hindering that kind of movement without an agreement. At the outset, this has given our country the confidence we really needed. Our airlines need the freedom to overfly foreign countries without any hindrance and stop for fuel. This is something many of us have taken for ... view
  • 19 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: So, when we are given these rights, we should not take them for granted. We should appreciate even more that our country has developed to a level where we can fly to South Africa and Botswana. We can take our goods and trade in those countries without any hindrances. Recently, I had to fly to Senegal and the people who used the Ethiopian Airlines had to fly to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, then Abidjan in Cote d’Ivoire and finally Dakar in Senegal. But for Kenya Airways, we flew directly to Abidjan and then Dakar. So, when you think about this ... view

  • 13 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me the opportunity to speak on this matter. At the outset, let me appreciate the ministry for coming up with this National Water Policy that will allow us deal with the many issues that have been affecting the water sector. I will make reference to my constituency, Kabondo Kasipul Constituency where we have been victims of skewed policies and regulations that we had over a period of time. In 1976, there was a water project in my constituency that was then Kasipul Kabondo, called Atemo Water Project. In this project, ... view
