  • 9 Jun 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for this opportunity. First, I thank God because, indeed, he is awesome. We are a living testimony of having gone through three elections and still standing. • 9 Jun 2022 in National Assembly: West Constituency for all the faith they have in me, the prayers and the support they have given me in delivering this great mandate. In addition, one of my former colleagues told me when I came to this House that there is no school that teaches experience. Indeed, that is true because we have gone through the hurdles and more importantly, we have seen greater sense of unity in terms of purpose in delivering for the people of Kenya. Indeed, it is humbling. We have passed through these doors for the last 10 years as among the less than 3,000 ... view
  • 31 May 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity. At the outset, I want to commend our Deputy Speaker, Hon. Cheboi, for chairing such a momentous task of amending our Standing Orders. It has enabled us to have greater progression in terms of our responsibilities of oversight, legislation and representation. The strides that we have taken into accommodating the views of all the Members, and trying to seek out the talent that is brought to this House by our citizenry in Kenya are outstanding. This is through the expansion of Committees and seeking to see how we can govern better ... view
  • 31 May 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me the opportunity to second this monumental amendment Bill for the Supreme Court of Kenya. Indeed, we have seen, over the last ten years, the Supreme Court educating Kenyans in the various rulings they have given. We have seen them uphold the rule of law and there are many jurisprudences they have set. These amendment proposals have come up to strengthen the functionality of the Supreme Court. This is indeed a step in the right direction in continually keeping our constitutional dispensation alive. view

During the COVID-19 times, this is one of the innovative things that helped keep Kenya safe and keep it moving as the courts adjudicated the many civil and criminal cases. We would now allow the Supreme Court to amend its rules in terms of usage of technology. There are pertinent things. They have been prone to things like cybercrime and cyber manipulation. They will now put in place systems that will be used by ... view
  • 31 May 2022 in National Assembly: There are various petitions on declaration of state of emergency in accordance with Articles 58 and Article 96 (6) of the Constitution, which enables this House to adjudicate on state of emergency and anybody who has an issue with it is able to escalate it to the Supreme Court. In so doing, the Supreme Court will be guided in the way they look at infringement into any statute and the fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution to ensure that we enjoy peace and tranquility forever. view
  • 31 May 2022 in National Assembly: I look forward to the day when the Supreme Court will be bold enough to mirror the system in the United States of America, where the Supreme Court is a life calling so that the jurisprudences are well set out by having permanent members. I know this is not canvassed here but these are just thoughts for the future – that, as we drive jurisprudence and continuity, it becomes something that lawyers and judges alike will see to it that there is consistence in the way rulings are made and upheld at the Supreme Court level. view
  • 31 May 2022 in National Assembly: With those few remarks, I beg to second and urge the House to pass this momentous amendment Bill. view
