Pursuant to provisions of Standing Order No.44(2)(c), I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, regarding the cash transfer programme during the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Hon. Speaker, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Kenya launched a cash transfer programme as a stopgap measure to help the elderly persons who have been affected by cessation of movement and curfew, in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. Thousands of elderly persons risk becoming destitute because the Government has not released funds or if it has, a substantial number of vulnerable persons are yet to receive the funds.
