Samuel Atandi","speaker":{"id":13290,"legal_name":"Samuel Onunga Atandi","slug":"samuel-onunga-atandi"},"content":" Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to support the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020. As we were going through the Tax Laws at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, I remember saying that some of the proposals contained in the Bill were unnecessary because we did not have a formula of dealing with it. For instance, we reduced the Corporate Tax by 5 basis point but we did not have a way of ensuring that it would benefit the common mwananchi . Most of us said that for the VAT, there was no way we were going to ensure companies transfer benefits to the common mwananchi . We felt that the Government should have afforded a better approach of collecting taxes and ploughing them to the various sectors that required them for the purposes of intervening in the consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
