I beg to move: THAT, clause 27 of the Bill be amended— (a) by renumbering the existing provision as sub-clause (1); (b) in subclause (1) by inserting the words “or embryo” immediately after the word “eggs” appearing in paragraph (e); and (c) by inserting the following new sub-clause immediately after sub clause (1); (2) A person who contravenes the provisions of this section commits an offence and shall, upon conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding five million shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or to both. It is not medically possible to transfer a sperm and an egg separately into a womb and expect a pregnancy immediately. Hence, the amendment seeks to clarify this and provides for a penalty for contravention or use of gametes contrary to provisions of the Section in order to deter noncompliance. I beg to move."}
