However, I would like him to note the following: He accepts that, currently, there is a shortage of teachers to the tune of 47,000. Out of this number, the Ministry recruited only 4,000 teachers in the last financial year. We still lack 43,000 teachers. This is a very big number. July 9, 2008 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 1695 Therefore, it means that the pupil to teacher ratio is very high. Our standards require that one teacher handles a class of between 35 pupils to 40 pupils."}
