The cost of building a bitumenized road currently is about Kshs60 million per kilometre in Kenya. The road will have a lifespan of about 20 years. The cost of building a cement road is about Kshs74 million per kilometre. The road will have a lifespan of about 50 years. By just increasing a quarter of the cost, we more than nearly triple the lifespan of a road. That is the rationale. The purpose of constructing this six-kilometre road was actually to see how much we could use, in Kenya currency to produce such a quality road that will give us that lifespan."}
