In many police stations in many places where victims of sexual assault got to complain, they are told by the officers receiving their complaints: “Do you know that if you do not have enough evidence on this case, you will go in for the period that your attacker could have gone in for?” This is a very serious issue. Therefore, I want to assure hon. Members that we did not pluck this proposal from the air. This is a proposal that is based on empirical evidence by a distinguished committee."}
