Speaker, Sir, we can all see that livestock reduces poverty in many households in this country. Food security is provided by livestock in this country to many households; it also creates employment for many millions Kenyans, especially in the ASAL areas, and many regions of this country depend solely on the livestock sub-sector. At Independence, the Government of Kenya directed its major policies towards the cash crop sector, and what is usually referred to as “the White Highlands”, and the livestock sub-sector found itself relegated to the backwaters."}
