Temporary Deputy Speaker, I beg to move the following Motion:- THAT, aware that according to the statistics released by the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) in Policy Brief No. 25 of June 2012, Kenya’s population, as that of all other Sub-Saharan African countries, is rapidly ageing and the population of persons aged 60 years and above increased steadily from 1 million in 1989 to 1.9 million by 2009, and is projected to reach about3 million people by year 2030; concerned that there is an increase in the number of neglected and/or abandoned elderly members of the society as a result of the financial inability of their immediate kin or lack of capacity to handle the health conditions of such senior citizens; noting that despite the legislation enacted to cater for the elderly, little further comprehensive action to enhance their well-being and specifically the health of older Kenyans has ensued, this House urges the Government to establish a free nursing unit for the aged in every hospital in all the counties."}
