(Prof.) Lonyangapuo","speaker_title":"","speaker":{"id":447,"legal_name":"John Krop Lonyangapuo","slug":"john-lonyangapuo"},"content":"Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the following Motion:- THAT, aware that the textile industry in Kenya is crumbling following the closure of several textile firms due to unhealthy competition arising from cheap imports of textile and apparel products; concerned that the Government imports most of the uniforms for the disciplined forces and other uniformed staff thereby compounding the problem faced by the industry; noting that the national Government would provide the biggest market for these local products; concerned further that the closure of these firms led not only to loss of huge revenue but also to loss of employment opportunities; the Senate calls upon the national Government to urgently formulate a policy and review the procurement regulations to compel all Government departments and agencies to procure textiles and leather products locally with a view to redeeming the Kenya textile industry and creating more revenue sources."}
