Murungi","speaker_title":"","speaker":{"id":2802,"legal_name":"Kathuri Murungi","slug":"kathuri-murungi"},"content":"On the customary marriages, I have an issue with Clause 44(4), which states that when a husband wants to get another wife, he has to get consent from the other wife or wives. Those who go for customary marriages and a lady accepts it, then it means that she is ready to get up to 10 co-wives. So, the aspect of notifying her should be reconsidered. Most of the people who go for a second or third wife may have their own reservations or reasons. For them to seek consent from the first wife, definitely, I do not think there is anyone who can give that type of consent. I suggest that maybe we can reconsider this section during the Committee Stage, so that this is changed. I support the Bill."}
