The first thing I want us to appreciate is that we are here on a special gazettted day. Being a special gazetted day, we are sitting on a Friday, it is not even the normal sitting day because we had to beat constitutional or legal timelines. Standing Order No.54(3) says:- “Despite paragraph (2) the Speaker may, on the request of a Senator, defer the putting of the question to the following day, in which case the Speaker shall thereupon nominate a time of which the question shall be put.” The following day would presuppose, in my personal opinion, and I may be wrong, that the next day that the Senate is sitting and we are in a normal sitting time.
