From the outset, in principle, I support this Bill because it is addressing a key and sensitive area. The Bill is of general application from the way I have been reading the definitions. It is not narrowing down necessarily to the women. Even in its definition, it is talking about violence against a spouse. It says to provide for the protection and relief of victims of domestic violence; to provide for the protection of a spouse and any children or dependent persons. We should not look at it as something that is against men and is particularly for women. It should apply in a family setting.
