However, in 2006, the Government gave a waiver of Kshs5.8 billion and this was as follows:- The Co- operative Bank of Kenya was given Kshs0.6 billion while Kshs5.2 billion was paid to the World Bank which had given loans to co-operative societies through the Treasury. So, the Kshs5.8 billion did not go to the co-operative societies, but to the loaners; that is, Co- operative Bank and World Bank through the Treasury."}
