I appreciate your consideration of the earlier point of order raised by the Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Finance, Planning and Trade. On a related issue, it is unfortunate Hon. Keynan, my Chairman of the Public Investments Committee (PIC) and also a commissioner, has left the Chamber. Sometime last year, Hon. Keynan attempted to bring a Motion for the appointment of an audit firm to audit the Office of the Auditor-General in line with Article 226(4) of the Constitution. That Motion was immediately withdrawn amidst reservations some of us had on that particular day. I made it clear during the deliberation of that Motion, before its withdrawal, that Article 226 (4) of the Constitution provides thus: “The accounts of the office of the Auditor-General shall be audited and reported on by a professionally qualified accountant appointed by the National Assembly.”"}
