The share of agriculture budget has been stagnant at 2 per cent as a policy in the last two years and it is projected to maintain the trend in the medium term. This is despite the fact that the Government is a signatory to the Maputo Declaration which calls upon African Governments to spend a minimum of 10 per cent of the Budget on agriculture. Therefore, the Committee recommends in the subsequent Budgets, the sector budget to be increases to 5 per cent of the overall budget given the critical role the sector plays in the economy particularly its contribution to the Big Four Agenda."}
