Pursuant to Standing Order No.47 (1), I rise to make a Statement on the locust invasion in parts of the country; in particular the Lower Eastern region of Kitui, Makueni and Machakos counties; the Upper Eastern region, including Embu County; and the North Eastern region, in particular Wajir and Garissa counties; and now I am told they have invaded Muhoroni in Nyanza region. Migratory locust swarms have been identified as a serious threat to agricultural communities since Biblical times. The Horn of Africa is facing a locust invasion on an unprecedented scale.
