Hon. Temporary Speaker, I rise pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 44(2)(c), to request for a statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security regarding the alarming rise in motorbike theft and killing of bodaboda riders in Taita Taveta County. Hon. Temporary Speaker, over the past three months, Taita Taveta County has faced a distressing surge in criminal activities targeting bodaboda operators. Tragically, five bodaboda riders have lost their lives in separate incidents across the county, brutally murdered by unknown assailants who subsequently stole their motorcycles. Additionally, there have been 15 reported cases of motorbike theft without fatalities in the last three months. Those heinous acts have not only resulted in loss of lives but have also severely disrupted the vital bodaboda sector, which plays a crucial role in the county's economic growth and accessibility of services. It is deeply concerning that despite the gravity of those crimes, there appears to be a lack of decisive action from security agencies, with no arrests being made in connection to those incidents. The bodaboda sector is fundamental to our local economy contributing significantly to rapid economic growth and improving access to critical services at manageable costs. The current insecurity has forced bodaboda riders to cease operations as early as 6.00 p.m. severely interrupting the transportation of people, goods and essential services. That not only impacts the livelihoods of the riders, but also hampers the overall economic activities in the area. It is against this background that I request for a statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security on the following: 1. A report on the status of investigations into all the killings of bodaboda riders and thefts of their motorcycles in Taita Taveta County over the past three months; 2. The specific measures being implemented to curb that alarming spate of killings and theft targeting bodaboda operators in the county; 3. Reasons for the apparent inadequacy of security agencies in the region, particularly in Voi and the County at large; and, 4. The immediate and long-term strategies the Government plans to employ to restore security and confidence in the bodaboda sector not only in Taita Taveta, but also the country at large."},{"id":1464904,"url":"http://info.mzalendo.com/api/v0.1/hansard/entries/1464904/?format=json","text_counter":332,"type":"speech","speaker_name":"The Temporary Speaker","speaker_title":"","speaker":null,"content":"(Hon.
