  • 26 Apr 2023 in National Assembly: (Kimilili, UDA) Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to also welcome the President of the Pan-African Parliament and tell him that we, Members of the African Continent, look at the Pan-African Parliament with a lot of optimism. We want to see a seamless Africa where people cross our continent without requirement to provide any visa because we are one people. We want to see the Kenyan people crossing over to South Africa or Zimbabwe for employment without any hindrance because Africa is one. We should not allow ourselves to be divided by European countries that bring ... view
  • 2 Feb 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I appreciate all Members of Parliament who have supported these amendments. This Bill will herald a new beginning in this country that retirees will never beg for their pension because it belongs to them. This Bill will also save Kenyans who are retiring from using colossal sums of money they pay to middle men and brokers in the name of corruption in what they usually say “pushing the file”. I have noted the concerns of many Members of Parliament, notably that we consider during the Committee of the whole House to do amendments to ... view
  • 2 Feb 2022 in National Assembly: money to continue servicing the loans they have. They must also get their pensions to continue paying for their insurances like medical. People retire at the age of 60 while some at 70. It is not rocket science that one has to know that this particular officer is retiring at this particular time. This Bill will cure so many problems. There are people who have died before accessing their pensions. We have some who have been auctioned before they access their pensions. The reason we have introduced a pension scheme in the country is to ensure that upon retirement, they ... view

  • 5 Jan 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you for giving me this opportunity, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I beg to move: THAT, the Bill be amended by deleting Clause 10. This clause says that if a member of a party promotes the ideology of a different political party, that person will seem to have resigned from that political party. We need to be very careful because this clause runs the danger of being misused. I say so because we have pre and post- coalition agreements. Today, this party called UDA has a coalition agreement with the Jubilee Party. When Members of this party promote the ideals ... view
  • 29 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. It is very important to note that political parties must be strengthened. The only thing we need to do is to allow them to develop slogans of their choice. If we are going to give the powers of deciding which slogan to be used by political parties, this clause is going to be abused. Today, we could be celebrating because you think that another political party is going to be curtailed but tomorrow, it will be you. So, I support this amendment and I ask everyone in this House to support this amendment. view

  • 22 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. Hon. Murugara has raised very serious matters that need your guidance, and it is only fair that you give an appropriate ruling because we are staring at a situation where even Non- Governmental Organisations (NGOs) will begin to field political candidates if we do not tread carefully. We are making these laws for posterity and not for a particular group. So, we should look at the matters that have been raised by Hon. Murugara with the seriousness they deserve. Let us not put our political emotions into this because they ... view
  • 10 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I beg to move that the Pensions (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No.26 of 2020) be read a Second Time. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, the main objective of this Bill is to ensure that retirees get their pensions in time and failure by the pension schemes to remit their funds in time constitutes a criminal offence. Pensioners should get their pensions within a period of not less than 90 days so that they can carry on with their businesses. Thousands of Kenyans have suffered in the hands of pensions schemes. They have travelled every ... view
  • 10 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: This Bill seeks to ensure that pension schemes engage in meticulous planning so that a year before individuals retire, pension schemes begin to put their houses in order to ensure that monies for pension lump sums and monthly payments are available. This is because they will be fully aware that any delays occasioned by them will not only be criminal but punishable. Moreover, the Bill seeks to make it very clear that pension scheme trustees should begin to look for pensioners’ money to ensure that it is available to the owners upon retirement. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, there is a ... view
