It is also important to understand that that office fell vacant a number of weeks ago. Hon. Deputy Speaker, I am trying to do my best under the circumstances. I hope you will indulge me, so that the Leader of the Majority Party can advise the House on the steps that are being taken to have the Auditor-General recruited. This is a matter that needs to be expedited. In short, that is what I am trying to say even though we know that there are timelines and procedures within the law. Thank you.

It is for this reason that the Clerk of the National Assembly and the Auditor-General approached the Public Accounts Committee early this year for advice on which way to proceed, given the hurdles that had become too apparent. It was, indeed, the view of the PAC that the National Assembly should make another attempt of advertising this tender. Following that advice, the National Assembly advertised afresh for the tender.
