National Assembly

All Sovereign power belongs to the people of Kenya and shall be exercised only in accordance with this Constitution

Article 1 (i), Constitution of Kenya, 2010

This week’s SMS question:

The Finance Bill proposes a review of the interest law that repeals the interest cap. Do you support the repeal and why?

“No I don't. Banks have failed to self- regulate and to be responsible business agents. Last year, banks asked Parliament to remove the 7% floor rate, saving that they would reciprocate by lending to Kenyans at even lower rates as the removal was to cushion them from possible risks . When Parliament removed it, they did not honor their part. Instead, all banks reported huge profits! Sam, kikuyu Constituency, Kiambu County ”

“I support. Today many sms can't access bank loans because banks are lending to government. Banks to be compelled through regulations not to differentiate risk among customers instead of applying a standard fee. ”
