"content": "THAT clause 16 of the Bill be amended in sub-clause (1) by inserting the words “the environment” immediately after the words “and to protect” appearing in paragraph (g). The Committee proposes to amend sub-clause (1) of Clause 16 of the Bill to provide powers to take such action as is necessary to ensure protection of the environment. The provision as set out in the Bill restricts the powers of the authority to the enforcement of action necessary for the protection of health and safety of workers and the public. The environment is a critical element that is likely to be affected by the operations of a contract. It would, therefore, be important to ensure that measures are put in place to safeguard it. The amendment proposed is intended to ensure that this is done."
