"content": "Thank you, Mr. Chairman, Sir, for giving me this chance, though with the two minutes I doubt if I can put across any important point other than just to say that when 50 per cent of the people that voted for me to come here wake up, they head to their fields to pluck tea. One of the effects of tea plucking is that it greatly disfigures your finger prints. I observed that in 2013 during the voting exercise that it was a big struggle to identify members of the society with the Electronic Voter Identification Devices (EVIDs). It is for this reason that I stood up and supported this inclusion of Clause 44(a) so that we have an alternative mechanism where we do not disenfranchise certain voters. Even if the Senate had not bothered or this law had not come to Parliament, some of us were considering going to the High Court because Section 38 of our Constitution is very clear about not putting unreasonable barriers to our people when they want to vote. For that reason, I support the inclusion."
