Speaker, it is therefore, highly regrettable that some of the firms which the House recommended to be banned from importing sugar into the country are still being licensed by the Government to do so. In addition, according to the Reports in the media, millions of unsuspecting consumers may have been exposed to poisonous sugar on sale in several parts of the country, repackaged and disguised as local brands. Experts have already confirmed that the commodity is unfit for human consumption as tests have found it to contain substance harmful to human health."
