"content": "I come from Kakamega County and I will tell you that poverty levels in the whole of western region are very high. When you go to the villages, people are unemployed. There is a lot of crime and gender-based violence because our people have no money. In the past, sugar was the pride of the western region and it is all gone. Our people are there helpless. I think we should take this matter very seriously. We should revive the sugar factories and give our farmers the subsidies that other farmers are given in other regions. Our farmers have never got a subsidy. If we want to revive the sugar industry, we need to plant good breeds of cane. In the process of reconstructing, we need our farmers to be subsidised so that this industry can be revived. The way the western region is going, we cannot achieve the Big Four Agenda because we are poor and we have nothing."
