"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. Like Hon. Millie Odhiambo, I have waited the whole afternoon to get this chance. It is a very emotional topic for me because I am a product of the sugar industry. I was born, bred and schooled through sugar production, when it was still successful in western Kenya. What annoys me this afternoon is the fact that we seem to be deviating from what we are supposed to be discussing. We are not discussing licensing of sugar importers. Instead, we are discussing contraband sugar which is laced with mercury that puts the lives of Kenyans at a risk. As we sit here, it is okay for us to smile and think we are safe, but none of us is safe because your child, sister, brother, wife could be visiting somebody in another house where they are taking a cup of tea with sugar that has mercury. So, everybody is at a risk. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. Acertified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor."
