  • 18 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, youth polytechnics play a crucial role in this country, particularly with a view to attaining Vision 2030. They play an important role in that most of the youths who are not able to make it to tertiary colleges and universities can be absorbed for middle-level college courses. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 18 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Secondly, looking at the way youth polytechnics are being managed currently it is terrible. Some of the instructors work for over a year without any pay yet the majority of them earn a monthly stipend of Kshs1,700. That is the life of these people. If we want to ensure that youths all over the country are able to turn around our economy, we must ensure that youth polytechnics are self-supporting and self-sustaining. It is, therefore, very important that we give them sufficient financial support to enable them move forward. view
  • 18 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: In terms of giving Kshs5 million to the constituencies for purposes of completing the centres of excellence, I am one of the most affected Members of Parliament. The Kshs30 million that was given to Bumula Constituency could only raise the building up to the wall plate level. There are no windows or anything else. Therefore, this is good news for my people. We have made requests to the Ministry of Education to look into the matter and see how best they can facilitate in completing the institutions. Neither the projects for the primary schools nor for secondary schools that benefited ... view
  • 27 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, we should not take advantage of Standing Order No.80. There is a difference between reading and referring and that should be brought out clearly. My brother, the Chief Whip, is saying that my dear sister was reading. Maybe, because of her height, it may be presumed that she was reading. The height might have made her appear like she was reading, but referring to something that you want to express is not out of order. view
  • 20 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support the Bill. First and foremost, let me say that the current law governing the operations of the insurance industry in this country is very hollow and lopsided. It gives insurance companies a lot of leeway in terms of messing up the industry players, particularly those who may have been involved in accidents. Setting the limit of compensation that each category of injury is entitled is some kind of good Christmas gift to Kenyans. Of course, I am not advocating for people to die but it will be a very good ... view
  • 23 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to also contribute to this Motion. I want to thank my colleague, hon. Jamleck Kamau, for this well thought Motion, coming at a time when we are at the bottom of everything in terms of finances. Hon. Kamau should not only have thought of how these officers ought to be travelling, but also where they are going to stay. They stay in very expensive hotels paying over Kshs200,000 or Kshs300,000 in a day. As much as we want them to travel Business Class or Economy Class, the taxpayer ... view
  • 23 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: As other Members have proposed, we should not only pass this Motion, but it should be taken out as a directive. Anybody who refuses to heed to the provisions of the Motion and to implement the directive from this House should meet the wrath of the Members of this National Assembly. I support the Motion. view
