  • 27 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, just as I told the House, the maintenance of all airstrips is now under the KAA. Therefore, the money will not actually go to the DWO directly. The KAA will have direct control of that money. view
  • 16 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I wish to inform the House that the Ministry has not received this Question. However, more importantly, we have an hon. Member who requested for a Ministerial Statement on the same issue. It is the feeling of the Ministry that the Question will be better addressed by the Ministerial Statement. view
  • 16 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Ministerial Statement will be read on Tuesday afternoon because we are still receiving more 1342 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES May 16, 2007 information from the site. view
  • 16 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) Kenya Airways does not monopolise the local and regional air transport market. The May 16, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 1345 Government has fully liberalised domestic air transport and licensed 60 operators, some of which have started operating. Among them we have Flight 540, Jetlink Express, East Africa Safari Express and Kenya Airways that operate scheduled flights. Kenya Airways operates scheduled flights to Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu and Kisumu only. Others fly these routes and in addition operate to Lokichoggio, Maasai Mara, Juba and other destinations on scheduled and chartered flights. East Africa Safari ... view
  • 16 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, if those major airlines apply, their applications will be considered. So far, they have not applied. view
  • 16 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, if the KWS applies, we shall consider the application. view
  • 16 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we are on an airport expansion programme that started two months ago. Obviously, Kisumu Airport will be one of them. We are spending Kshs2 billion on Kisumu Airport for the expansion, and then we will go to other domestic airports. view
  • 16 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, as I indicated earlier, the cost of a flight may be expensive due to other factors, not because of the monopoly of Kenya Airways. Obviously, we are considering any application by any airline to fly these routes. Therefore, we hope that in due course, we will get more applications and the flight cost will be reduced substantially. 1346 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES May 16, 2007 NUMBER/LOCATION OF KTDA FACTORIES UNDER CONSTRUCTION COUNTRYWIDE view
  • 14 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. 3598 (a) The airport has scheduled operators, namely, the East African Safari Air and the Kenya Airways. I am aware that the Kenya Airways suspended operations to the airport on 3rd November, 2006, citing unevenness of the surface and pavement failures. The East African Safari Air is operating normal services at the airport as arrangements are being made to undertake the required repairs. On 8th November, 2006, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) awarded a Kshs17 million tender for immediate repair of the aircraft pavement. The contractor was scheduled to commence work on Monday, ... view
  • 14 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Ministry takes the issue very seriously. Air safety is of paramount improtance to the Ministry. Therefore, I would like to assure the hon. Member that the contractor will be on site in the next two days. Seven days is too long. view
