  • 6 Dec 2018 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would like to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Energy the following Question: (a) Is the Cabinet Secretary aware of numerous complaints against Kenya Power in Meru County relating to among others, low and loose hanging power lines, frequent power outages, defective and broken down transformers, exaggerated inflated power bills, and delays in addressing reported incidents? (b) What measures is the Ministry taking to ensure that complaints are addressed urgently and further assure the residents of their safety with regard to defective transformers? The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. ... view
  • 6 Dec 2018 in National Assembly: (c) Could the Cabinet Secretary consider compensating customers for the power surges and intermittent outages for losses incurred? view
  • 28 Nov 2018 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I beg to give notice of the following Motion: THAT, aware that as the country rolls out the Big Four Agenda amid concerns over high rate of youth unemployment, agriculture is believed to be among the sectors of the economy that country must target for possibilities to create employment and lift people out of poverty; further aware that the growing population and continued land degradation due to overgrazing, poor farming practices, deforestation and climate change, high cost of farming are among the factors harboring the youth from engaging in agriculture as a business for gainful employment ... view
  • 28 Nov 2018 in National Assembly: cognizant that for the economy to grow the country must harness the demographic dividend by creating a huge working-class youth base through agriculture, this House urges the National Government to ensure access to friendly financial services for agricultural entrepreneurship, improve access to markets, promote climate-smart agricultural technologies and address cross-cutting challenges including setting aside land for agricultural activities by the youth farmers. Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. view
  • 27 Nov 2018 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, thank you for giving me the opportunity to ask Question No. 161 of 2018 to the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development. a) Is the Cabinet Secretary aware that the use of Toyota Probox is a popular and convenient means of public service transport in most parts of the country and further that public transport in the country, particularly Meru County had been inconvenienced by the enforcement of public transport regulations? b) When will the Ministry regulate and license the use of Toyota Probox as Public Service Vehicles? view
  • 15 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I support the Motion on the establishment of special needs units in every primary and secondary school. I come from a very big county where we have more than 1,122 primary and secondary public schools. With more than 1,000 schools, we only have 118 units. That means that we have a lot of people living with disabilities who do not have a place to learn. The people living with disabilities in our communities are so many with a lot of talented and gifted children, who when given an opportunity to learn or to join ... view
  • 8 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I am glad to have this opportunity to support this Motion by our sister, Hon. Jessica Mbalu. It is on the construction of post-trauma care facilities for survivors of sexual and gender- based violence. Gender-based violence against women and our girls is still a thorn in the flesh in Kenya. The magnitude is so worrying. Gender-based violence is a major threat to our development, The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 8 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: especially in Meru County. This is occurring in our homes. Victims do not have a place they can run to. It is still happening in our schools, streets, places of work and even our worship centres. There is great need to construct such centres in every sub-county, not only in our counties. As you know, the perpetrators include our husbands, parents, family members, teachers and law enforcement authorities. We need a centre where our girls, women and young boys can run to. If we say they can only run to our churches, police stations or any other place, they might ... view
  • 8 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: I support this Motion by our sister Jessica by saying that, in Meru, we have so many demonstrations. It is not because they need roads, water or construction of schools, but because fathers and men have raped so many young girls. We need such a centre. I am very fortunate today that, as the Woman Representative of Meru County, I am in the process of constructing one. I appeal to every Woman Representative of this Parliament to have such centres so that we help our girls and women down in our villages. Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. view
  • 25 Jul 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Installation of CCTV cameras in all public secondary schools is good. I support this Motion. Installation should not only be done in secondary schools but in all public and private institutions of learning. Recently, we had a case in Tharaka Nithi County where a female teacher and a pupil of Muragara Primary School in Tharaka Nithi County were injured following an attack last Friday. They are nursing injuries. If we had CCTV cameras in that school, establishing the suspect would have been much easier. I also support this Motion because it prevents such incidents. ... view
