  • 21 Sep 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise to support the report of the Committee on the approval of the nominee of the CBK. During this time, we are dealing with a lot of challenges as an economy. We have issues that must be thought out clearly. The only way we are going to save this country is by ensuring that we pass or advance economic policies that will think about future generations. • 21 Sep 2023 in Senate: One of the biggest challenges that we have in this country is that many people who are tasked with responsibilities are not qualified enough. In most cases, they are appointed based on who they know, and where they have been. When it comes to the issue of monetary policy and the economy of a country such as this, over the last two years, we have seen the way the exchange currency in this country has gone down. Today, a Dollar is trading at about Kshs150. I dare say all that leads down to the policies. When you look at our ... view
  • 21 Sep 2023 in Senate: will still end up paying a lot of money and that pain will still go to the citizens. We have to be clear. Maybe we should have had those arrangements basing it on the Kenya Shilling. I will be happy if this gentleman would come up with policies that would propel our Kenya Shilling to be a currency that we can negotiate in the East African community. I was in Arusha the other day and I needed to deposit some Kenya Shillings in my bank in Kenya. I was very happy because I walked into Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in ... view
  • 21 Sep 2023 in Senate: Constitution mandates each and every Cabinet Secretary to table the report on how their departments are performing. It is time to consider amending the Constitution and the PFM Act to set timelines, goals and milestones whereby the Central Bank Governor can come to Parliament and give a report on the efforts that is put in place in terms of developing policy that will end up stabilizing our currencies. I believe that will promote confidence among traders in this country. I support. view
  • 20 Sep 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise to support the two Petitions and I will start by supporting the Petition which was read by Sen. Mwaruma. In this country today, our teachers are suffering. I have been agonizing on what to do on whether to bring another Petition here because of the welfare of the teachers. We have over 30,000 teachers who have died and their families have not been compensated in accordance with the law. We pass laws in this House. We have the Public Service Superannuation Scheme (PSSS) Act which we passed to ensure that there is no ... view

  • 20 Sep 2023 in Senate: What we forgot is that the people we represent in this House, do not only vote for a governor, but look at the entire team. So, I think this Petition is worth looking into it. I think it may require a referendum. However, it is something worth our debate. We have the issues of the Deputy Governors and Deputy President as well. It is very interesting because when you read the Constitution, one of the qualifications for a person to be able to serve as a Deputy Governor or Deputy President, is that he or she must have the qualification ... view

  • 9 Aug 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. You have rightfully used your discretion to allow us to comment on the Statement by Sen. Okenyuri. The issue here is tourism; what it is bringing to this country and what we can do to enhance revenue that is coming from the tourism sector. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am happy that my brother raised a very serious concern about tourists queuing for long hours at Maasai Mara National Reserve. I will go and deal with that issue. I can assure you that we are making progress. We are doing away with cash payment ... view
