  • 23 Sep 2021 in National Assembly: The second thing is that we have an area which has grass in Samburu – a place called Mahti – but because of insecurity, pastoralists cannot go there. Every time we go to Matiang’i’s office and discuss these matters, he says that he will come to Samburu North and we will discuss it. We want to see the same force being taken to Samburu North to ensure that we have security there. We cannot have peace in some parts of this country and lack of it in others. The issue of Marsabit is very unfortunate. I want to tell the ... view
  • 19 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to comment on the third Petition by Hon. Sara Korere. It is very important to note that if there is any community in this country that is suffering from historical injustices, it is the Samburu community. I border Laikipia North Constituency where the Petitioners are from. Kirimon is also in Samburu West Constituency. It is unfortunate that since colonial times, Samburus have continued to be displaced. What is happening in Laikipia is very unfortunate. There are huge tracts of land owned by ranchers, which are fenced. When their leases expire, our current Government, which ... view
  • 19 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: I hope the Petition by Hon. Sara Korere will be taken seriously, and that appropriate recommendations will be made. It is very unfortunate that in every electioneering period we see people being given notices to leave their land. This issue needs to be sorted out once and for all and people should be given back their land. view
  • 6 Jul 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. At the outset, I want to congratulate the able Chairman, Hon. Kamket and the Committee on Delegated Legislation for expediting and bringing these Regulations to this House that we now put in force in the Equalisation Fund. One of the key reasons the pastoralists communities and areas that have been marginalised for a long time in this country supported the 2010 Constitution is because of the Equalisation Fund. It is interesting to see and watch many of our colleagues talk and think we just trivialise the matter of marginalisation in the areas that we ... view
  • 6 Jul 2021 in National Assembly: It is important to note that in this Budget, there is money meant for the Equalisation Fund. Once we pass these Regulations, I hope the Minister in charge of the National Treasury will see it fit and deem it right that it becomes a priority once they start disbursing the allocations of this financial year. Most of the projects that were put under the first policy were the big projects that were going to stir economic growth, open up and give service to these areas. For example, we have huge dams, roads, issues of electricity connectivity and, for the time ... view
  • 30 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I thank my colleague, Hon. Kiarie, for requesting for this Statement. I just wanted to point out two things: One, Kshs100 million, as my colleagues have said, is a drop in the ocean. This was a one- off payment of Kshs10,000 per artist yet the Coronavirus has been here with us for over a year and we still have the curfew, which we do not know how long it will go. As much as we are the budget-making House, the same spirit that His Excellency the President gave this stimulus The electronic version of the Official ... view
  • 30 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: package, it is in my opinion that the Ministry and the Committee should engage further, so that we can get more money. The Kshs10,000 is not enough for someone who is paying school fees, rent and buying food. Looking through the list, there is only one Samburu. There is a list that Samburus gave me as well as the Ministry. There is also a stereotype in this country that musicians only come from certain parts of this country. Just go to YouTube and check the artists that we have from across this country. The Ministry should look at its database ... view

  • 30 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: This is something that we can follow up and push for. It should not just be done for only the artists, but generally, we should also look at all the people who have been affected by the Coronavirus in different segments to see how the country can cushion against the effects of COVID-19 Pandemic. view
