  • 8 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move to following Motion:- August 8, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 3033 THAT, being aware that most State corporations are the economic mainstay of our country; aware that a privatization process should be preceded by a policy Sessional Paper outlining the merits and demerits of each State corporation proposed for privatization; this House grants leave to introduce a Bill for an Act of Parliament entitled the Privatization (Amendment) Bill to amend the Privatization Act in order to provide that Parliament shall by resolution approve the disposal of parastatal assets. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, ... view
  • 8 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am saying that the privatisation that was carried out in Kenya was done very indiscriminately and without proper preparations. I am now saying that most of our parastatals should be restructured. We should retain public ownership. They should be restructured in such way that they can be efficient to provide better services and give this country more money. As a country, we cannot allow a situation where foreign companies come in here and make colossal profits at the expense of our people. As I have said before, Kenya is a country that got Independence ... view
  • 8 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Temporary Deputy Speaker Sir. I want to thank the hon. Members who have contributed to this Motion. I also want to thank the Assistant Minister for Finance, Mr. Kenneth, for the remarks he has made. The Motion is intended to improve our own performance, as a country, and to raise a few issues that require reviewing of some of our policies. If the energy, communications, water, financial and tourism sectors are owned by foreigners, what will we be left with? I think there is need for us, as a country, to review those policies. We should ... view
  • 1 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Education:- (a) whether he is aware that due to acute shortage of teachers in Rachuonyo District, KCPE results for the last two years were very poor; (b) whether he could inform the House how many primary school teachers are currently serving in the district; and, (c) when the Ministry will post adequate teachers to the district. view
  • 1 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Education is one of the most important things in which any society that desires to develop must invest a lot of money. It is already perennial that only in those areas where the schools were established a long time ago and were given good equipment that we always see good results coming from those places. What is the Ministry doing to address the issue of making education equivalent in all the areas in the country so that we do not always see the Alliances and Mangus being the first in every year's examinations? view
  • 1 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. As I have said, education worldwide is used to bring about equality and equity in society. It is in Kenya, since Independence, where education is being used to perpetuate differences of classes in the society. Could the Ministry August 1, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 2881 consider making special arrangements to support areas which have been historically disadvantaged to come up, so that they become equal with the rest of those areas which were historically advantaged? This thing has been going on for the last 40 years. view
  • 26 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Roads and Public Works:- (a) whether he is aware that several parts of Kanyadhiang-Homa Hill-Kadel Road (D219) have been badly damaged by the current heavy rains; (b) whether he is further aware that this is the road linking West Karachuonyo Division with the rest of the country; and, 2814 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES July 26, 2007 (c) what measures he is putting in place to reconstruct the road. view
  • 26 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I wish to thank the Ministry for the job they have already done. There is a tendency for these roads to be repaired during the rainy season. What the Assistant Minister is saying is true, but the work was done during the rainy season and there are some other parts which need to be repaired. Is it possible for the Ministry to repair some of those other parts which have been destroyed after the rain? view
  • 26 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, this road that I have asked a Question about is a very important one as I have already said. It links West Karachuonyo division with the rest of the country. People would like this road to be called Ojijo Teko Road. Ojijo Teko was one of the freedom fighters for Independence of this country. What steps do we need to take in order to name it Ojijo Teko and when will it be tarmacked? view
  • 17 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: , asked the Minister for Energy:- (a) when rural electrification covering Kosele District Headquarters, Gendia Mission Hospital, Kendu Bay Town and Pala Market will be completed; and, (b) when the Minister will commission the project. view
