Speaker, I beg to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade and Cooperatives the following Question: (i) Could the Cabinet Secretary explain the steps taken to reduce the number of agencies operating at the ports of entry to inspect goods and whether all such agencies possess the requisite expertise to undertake the inspections? (ii) Is the Cabinet Secretary aware that the period for the mandatory inspection was recently increased from four days to over four weeks, thus causing delays in provision of inspection services? (iii) What plans is the Ministry pursuing to avert inordinate delays in physical inspection especially for the multinational companies which also possess internationally recognised certification such as C.E. ( Conformité Européenne ) and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration)?"
