"content": "Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move that the Counter-Trafficking in Persons Bill be now read a Second Time. This Bill is a Bill for an Act of Parliament to implement Kenyaâs obligations under the United Nations Conventions against Trans-National Organized Crime, particularly its protocols to prevent, suppress and punish trafficking in persons, especially women and children; to provide for the offences relating to trafficking in persons and for connected purposes. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would want to say at the outset that I have worked a lot over the years on issues of counter-trafficking. Before I joined Parliament, I worked with Cradle, the childrenâs foundation which is an organization that works for the rights of the child. While at the Cradle, I came across a lot of cases of trafficking in persons and consequently, started working on a draft Counter-Trafficking in Persons Bill. So, by the time I came into Parliament, we already had a draft Bill. I want to acknowledge several persons and organizations that we worked with.
