(a) I am not aware that Mombasa Maize Millers undervalued import cargo of maize in order to evade paying 2.25 percent Import Declaration Fees on a 10,000 metric-tonne cargo. (b) The second letter was issued by the importer after the importer availed commercial transaction documents to support the declared customs value, which upon verification, was found to be acceptable. (c) The Government did not lose any revenue for the subject importation. In this regard, I do not contemplate taking any action against the officer who authorized the release and, indeed, Mombasa Maize Millers. Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I want to apologize to the Questioner because this Question was to be answered by hon. (Dr.) Oburu who is temporarily unavailable. Hence, we have not even had a chance to give him a copy of this response."
