Speaker, many of those who have been recruited into the NPS are young people who do not have any experience, and they have not been trained in many areas on how to deal with the society. I want to plead with the Committee and the country to continually invest in training and prepare these young men and women in terms of what they will be facing in the society. They should know that they will be dealing with different types of people, and that they will face hardships. Most importantly, they should remember that they are working as a Police Service and not as a Police Force. They should understand how to deal with people. They should understand that there will be people who will be difficult and others who will be compliant. I urge the NPS and the country to ensure that we invest in training and taking care of police officers’ welfare, if we want to realise those reforms. Thank you, Hon. Speaker."
