"content": "He put in place a system of bursaries for African and Asian students who attained the grades required to enter these European schools and were willing to be part of the drive of the integration. He had to ensure success to education for the girl-child, no matter what their circumstances were. He was the Secretary General of the Board of Trustees of Ukambani Agricultural Institute (UKAI). All along, we have had our Kamba leadership; they approached the Government to consider the establishment of a university in Ukambani to be built on UKAI land which was contributed by Kitui and Machakos County Council. The negotiations led to the gazettement of South Eastern University College (SEUCO) as successor of UKAI on 15th July 2008. On 1st March 2013, the university became full-fledged as the Southern Eastern Kenya University whereby, Kyale Mwendwa was a trustee and a founder Member. In 1985, being the elder brother to Kitili Mwendwa, who was the then Chief Justice and also the Member for Kitui West (who died in a motor vehicle accident), he stood in a by-election and was successfully elected as the Member of Parliament for Kitui West unopposed. In 1987, the late President Daniel Arap Moi appointed him as a Cabinet Minister for Livestock and later moved him to the Ministry of Water in 1989. The family has sent out a request to those who might be interested that there will be a memorial service tomorrow, 11th November 2020. His funeral will be on Friday at his Syumasango home. On my behalf and on behalf of the people of Kitui West Constituency, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, the people of Kitui West Constituency and the County Government of Kitui. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Thank you, Hon. Speaker."
