"content": " Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I have had occasion to attend several Committee meetings to ask Questions. What happens is that I read out the Question and then I get a written response that is read by the relevant Government officer. Later on, I get a copy of that response. That is a very tidy way of doing things despite the fact that our Standing Orders have a different provision. We need to see whether we can amend them and come up with a better way of getting answers. What is the purpose of dropping a Question that has a written answer? The correct thing is to give the Member the written answer. However, when he is absent, he misses the occasion to ask supplementary Questions. The good thing about being present is that if the answer is not sufficient, you have the time to ask supplementary Questions and you get supplementary answers."
