"content": " Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I take this opportunity to thank my brother Hon. Peter Kaluma for coming up with this Bill. There are wars and battles out there. Once a spouse passes on, a problem begins. I thank Hon. Kaluma for coming up with this clarity so that we know exactly who is supposed to claim the estate of a deceased person. There are different types of marriages: Islamic, customary and Christian. The shortcoming is that we have not had clarity. Once a man dies, brothers, step-brothers and cousins come in to be part and parcel of the family. They go to the extent of even going to court and because of corruption, they ensure that they inherit the estate. Even the family’s piece of land is subdivided. This Bill is very timely and should be supported by this House to provide clarity on what should happen. As lawmakers of this country, people are looking up to us to come up with this kind of law. When we get to the Committee of the whole House, we will bring amendments to make the Bill even better than it is. I support."
