"content": "recommendations, for example, about the security of tenure of the senior management which made them feel uncomfortable. The process of implementing those many recommendations required an inspection team to put everything into real practice as how to do it. That is why the Ministry sent a team of inspectors to oversee the implementation of those decisions at Harambee Sacco. As a result of that, eventually several steps were taken to restructure the management. This led to production of a more professional management team through Federation of Kenyan Employers (FKE). A subsequent Annual General Meeting (AGM) approved the inspection report. They agreed not to separate the building and the Sacco. They said the two should become one entity. Members who wanted to sell their shares to the Sacco were encouraged to do so. At the moment, that is going on. At the time when it was decided, only 43 per cent of the members held shares, as individuals. Since then, many of them have sold their shares. The Sacco has been buying shares from the retiring members and other members who are willing to sell. I will be quite happy to continue looking at this matter because of the public interest it has generated. However, we should jealously guard against killing those Saccos that are doing well like this one."
