    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for the opportunity. I rise pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 47(1), to make a Statement on a matter of general national concern, that is, the impact of COVID-19 on the food security in the country. Food security is attained when all people at all times have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) estimates that about 12 million Kenyans are food poor. These are people whose income do not enable them to consume enough calories and nutrients for a healthy lifestyle. Two thirds of these food poor individuals are found in rural areas. These numbers are devastating to hear, and yet, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are estimated to get worse."
