    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the following Motion- THAT, notwithstanding the Resolution of the Senate made on 16th February, 2021 (approval of the Senate Calendar), pursuant to Standing Order Nos. 29(4) and 31(3), the Senate resolves to alter its Calendar (Regular Sessions) for the Fifth Session, 2021, in respect of Parts II and III, to hold two sittings every week on Tuesdays only (morning and afternoon) beginning from 10.00 a.m. and ending at 12.30 p.m. for the morning sitting and beginning at 2.30 p.m. and ending at 6.30 p.m. for the afternoon sitting, beginning on Tuesday 23rd March, 2021, until Tuesday, 15th June, 2021, and that the Senate calendar (Regular Sessions) for the Fifth Session, 2021, be altered accordingly. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the leadership decided to change the calendar because of the current situation in the country. This is a procedural Motion. We are operating in the House as if things are normal, but that is not the position. As the leadership, we felt that we need to take the COVID-19 third wave seriously. If we do not do this, it will cause a lot of problems. We already have a lot of challenges and the positivity rate is increasing. As we have been informed, all the medical institutions are full. Mr. Speaker, Sir, we have made arrangements in this House for people to sit 1.5 metre apart. Unfortunately, if you look around, people are sitting as if everything is normal. I believe that it is important to take care of ourselves in as much as we have responsibilities as leaders to deal with matters before this House. The sittings that we have introduced in the morning will take care of the sittings that we will miss in the afternoon of Thursday. I am sure that Members have been called as has been organized by the leadership to get immunized. I hope that Members are doing that so that we take precautionary measures. Apart from that, we have a responsibility as leaders to observe the rules that are put in place by health institutions. I hope this will assist all of us. We have been told that there are many of us who are in health institutions as a result of the current happenings in the country. The rate is increasing.
