Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order No. 44(2)(c), I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education and Research regarding requirements and selection of students for intakes to the teachers training colleges (TTC) for diploma courses in the country. It is of great concern that applicants who wish to join teachers training colleges for diploma courses are facing a myriad of challenges in regard to mandatory requirements and in particular the minimum mean grade of C (Plain) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Further, a score of C (Plain) on each of the following subjects, namely, English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, and any one subject in humanities and sciences required during the selection and intakes.
