"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to also add my voice to the debate on the NHIF (Amendment) Bill. Healthcare is important. It has been a major issue in this country. That is probably why we had it included in our Constitution. Under Article 43 of the Constitution, we are, as a country and Government, mandated to provide the highest standards of healthcare services, including reproductive healthcare. Also, Article 46 of the Constitution looks at the kinds of food we eat and how we grow them. I am saying this to underline the fact that healthcare is key even as we grow as a country. The NHIF, as a scheme, has been running for a while. It has assisted many people. It has assisted in many situations. It has also improved from a very simple cover to a fairly complicated cover – a cover that even takes people out of this country for treatment. It is a cover that is even increasing the scope of diseases that it will support.
