Given the use of multiple drugs and substances, the prevalence stood at 6 per cent in 2017 with the Coast Region having the highest prevalence in the current polls on drug use at 8.3 per cent followed by the Eastern Region at 8.2 per cent. The North Eastern Region stands at 7.8 per cent. Furthermore, findings on substance-use disorders dependence showed that the country was struggling with an increasing burden of persons who required treatment and rehabilitation. There has been no update on the status of alcohol and drug abuse in the country to-date. It is against this background that I seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security on the following: (i) Could the Chairperson provide information on the progress made by NACADA with regard to alcohol and drug abuse in the country?
