Senators, the salient issues raised in this Petition are- (a)That, EIK is a professional association of all environmental experts in Kenya, which was registered under the Societies Act on 4th August, 2014. The objective of the institute is to maintain, promote and improve standards in the conduct of environmental impact assessment, audit, strategic environmental assessment, social impact assessment and other relevant tools in environmental management. Further, the institute promotes knowledge and capacity building in environmental management and sustainable development in the public and private sector through research and knowledge dissemination; (b)That, in furtherance of the aforementioned objectives, the EIK has collaborated with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to review various policies, regulations and laws relating to environmental management with a view to bring sanity and order in the sector as well as sustainability;"
