"content": "Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity. I want to support this Statement by our colleague, Sen. Lelegwe. There comes a time when as a House and as a legislature we must divorce ourselves from all interests, all politics, all affiliations that we may have and just do the right thing. This is one such instance where as a House we are being invited to solve a crisis that has persisted for so many years yet by God’s design this matter has come before this House this afternoon. When I saw the pictures of what our colleague is referring to, innocent cattle that have been burnt beyond recognition; some have been shot, what does that make me feel as a leader? When we came into this House, standing next to where you are seated right now, we took an oath of office and said we are going to protect and defend our Constitution. Under the Bill of rights, under national values in Cap.10 of our Constitution, the rule of law is properly defined and what we are supposed to do in such instances. I am afraid that it has reached a point in this country where there are certain people, Cabinet Secretaries, the Inspector-General of Police, who as long as they are known to be pursuing certain partisan political interests, then they are considered to be above the law; that they can never be questioned by anyone. That is the unfortunate tragedy that I want to call upon this House to rise above those petty partisan politics for the interest of the rule of law in this country."
