"content": "Ethiopia and Somalia to buy fuel and foodstuffs because those commodities are very expensive in the Kenyan side of that region. So, as the Committee looks at these issues, I would also like them to find a way of regulating the prices of fuel across the country, and not just in Nairobi and other big cities, leaving greedy merchants to exploit Kenyans in other parts of the country. Everything, including school fees, has gone up as a result of the high cost of fuel. Parents are unable to pay school fees. Hon. Speaker, I thank you for bringing this matter up to speed even though I think the period for consideration of the Petition by the Committee should have been seven days and not 14 days. However, since we have put 14 days in the Standing Orders, so be it. We need to carry out amendments to the relevant laws to reduce the cost of fuel. It is also fair, if we are going to invite other people to come and make presentations before the Committee, to at least give them a seven- day notice. So, even as we talk about three or four days, we would not want to set up ourselves for failure."
