    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.48(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations regarding the alleged shooting and subsequent death of Mr. Alex Macharia, a trader at Kahawa West, Nairobi County, by the police on Wednesday, 25th August, 2021. In the statement, I would like the Committee to: (1) Explain the circumstances that led to the death of a trader, Mr. Alex Macharia, during a demonstration by traders to protest against the demolition of their stalls in Kahawa West, Nairobi County. (2) The Committees should provide an update on the investigations on the use of excess force and use of live bullets against the demonstrators by police officers during the demonstration. (3) Indicate the measures that have been put in place to ensure that the police officers responsible for the death are brought to book. (4) Finally, outline the steps, if any, that have been taken to compensate the family of Mr. Macharia. I thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir."
